Do rats ever shed in the spring?

I have never noticed a rat losing a lot of hair, but Bill is shedding like mad. There is more hair on the blankets in his cage than there is for all ten of my girls combined.

Is this normal? He seems happy and lively. I have heard of people losing some hair after surgery, but Bill recovered quickly from his neuter. The hair just started coming out within the last day.

It's very normal, I would think because I've had a few shed like crazy. But I never related it to a season though.
