Why must rats bite other rats toes?

Oscar lost a toenail when he got too close to Mouse in her cage. :-(

during out time? I have to block off my other rats or they might lose a nose or toe. Coroplast is your friend. Some rats are really protective of their homes, then the other rat comes near it, they bite.

Yeah, the boys were playing on the bed. I was putting them back & left a couple of them unsupervised for a moment. Oscar got off the bed and went over to say hello. I feel so bad for him.

All I can say is, at least it wasn't his nose. Poor bub.

Toes are especially at risk. They must be delectable.

Aww, even some of my nicest rats are terrible with that. When I have two groups of rats I block off the CN with hardboard.

His toe looks much better today and he is back to his usual self.

Whew! I spent a very tense night once, looking after a rat whose toe got bitten badly. It can be very frightening when the toe doesn't stop oozing.
