Could this bedding idea work?

Could you use like towels or w/e instead of package bedding and just throw them in the washer 2 times a week. What do you guys think about that? Or does that stink? Anyone try this?

I use fleece at the bottom of my cage. I change it twice a week and throw them in the washer.
But I still have litter pans with Yesterday's News, I find it helps absorb the odor.

why do you use fleece instead of say just a towel?

I find that towels would hold the smell more. Also, when the rats would chew it, it would all come undone and become a foot hazard. Another big plus, you don't have to dry fleece as long. It doesn't come apart if there are holes and it repels somewhat liquids.
