they are so sharp . new to rats not sure if you trim or not

sorry for being a bit thick

regards Danny :? :? :? :?

Sometimes ratties will trim their own nails and some will not. We trim our girls and boys nails when we see they're getting a bit to long. They're just like a dogs nail where they have the pink quick so if you do trim them make sure you are only trimming the white nail part. A good trick is putting a rock or something in the cage that they will step on so their nails will file down on their own. We have a rock under two of their water bottles so they have to step on it to take a drink.

Sometimes the back nails can use a trim, but I usually reserve it for the rats that end up growing those extra curly, extra tough toenails that grow after they've pulled a nail out, or something similar.

Their nails usually wear down by walking around on surfaces.
Some rats do need their back toenails trimmed if they get too long and start to curl under.
