I have been boggled over Clavamox for the past 3 hours! So I'm posting this here for the convience of myself and others.

The clavamox i have is a box with yellow on side and bottom (smells like banana), makes 15 ml reconstituted and on the side panel says amox. 50 mg and clav. acid 12.5 mg/ml).

I'm stupid and never gacve his weight, Toby weighs 530 grams.

Rat Guide

Suspension available in: 62.5 mg & 125 mg

6.25mg/lb BID, PO

.15cc/lb for 10 to 14 days

I get 0.12 using ratguide

For Rat Care Book:

10 mg/Ib = 0.16 ml/lb = 0.16 mg/454.4g, (1 lb = 454.4 g)

I get 0.19 using rat care book.

Calculations: 0.16ml/lb x 2.2 (pounds in a kg) = 0.352 to get dosage for kg x 530 (weight of rat) = 186.56 / 1000 grams in a kg = 0.19

So now it's here for anyone else who needs it.

I don't know where vets get their info from, but the one time I got clavamox from the vet she prescribed a 1 mL dose for a little girl rat. I thought it was an awful lot of medicine for such a tiny creature, but back in those days I was naive and trusted vets so I didn't question it. She died shortly after and to this day I feel it was due to the drug overdose. I think the .19 dose is the one to go with.
