Cage Question - ideas needed

Was considering this cage for my young, large, very active boys.
(Older ratties and girls are in my monster martins)

But the shelves look at bit strange, sort of like the two halfs slide together - that, of course would be a pee trap!

Anyone know anything about this type of cage?

Oh! so, you could position them across the back of the cage, not just the sides?

No, I'm pretty sure they can only go on one side but you can move them where you want.

Found out the cage is a bit rusted

Should have known it was be too good to be true ....

Is there nothing that can be done about rust? Sanding, re-painting?

You could also get the Martin's from Fredericton, if you prefer

Thanks, I have a martins, they are great cages ...
but I will not be getting the martins in F'ton, what these boys really need is a 3 bedroom house with a staircase to bounce up and down :lol:

I have a smaller version of that first cage. It's a bit small, but that one's a nice size. Anyhow, as far as the shelves go, they're nice since you can adjust them and put them across any side. They are easy to clean and not really pee traps at all. Although, there is one thing I hate. they are so hard to move and put back in. And the plastic bits holding the whole cage together is wonderful for ratties to chew on, I'm almost scared they're gonna chew their way out someday. So I have to find a new way to connect it soon.
