I agree with the others - if I were in your shoes I would go for it too. In my case I would instruct the doctors to make their best effort to use the metal rod instead of going for the grafts, etc. (Less pain, shorther recovery time.) My nephew had to have a section of bone replaced when he was about your age. They used the metal rod. That was about 15 years ago and he's never had trouble with it since.

That's great news Ewa!

That's good to hear he hasn't had any troubles with it Mumsy! I'm still waiting to hear back from the doctor. He's on vacation so waiting for him to get back and then I'll be talking to him again to figure out the date 'n what not. It's good that Ang and I found an apt that has no stairs what so ever! So that will make things easier on me when I get this done.

Finally got in to see my Bone Specialist and he is sending me for more xrays, bone scans and maybe more MRI's and Cat scans. He said he really wants to find out what this is because he has no idea what it really is. He knows it's some kind of benign tumor but wants to know why it keeps coming back and why it's still growing.
He's going to send me down to Halifax and talk to another specialist down there that had operated on me before. He's a really good orthopedic surgeon and wants his opinion.
So I guess I'm playing the waiting game...being a medical mystery sucks.

It is frightening that they don't know exactly what the problem is, but it must be really reassuring to see that you have someone who is determined to find a solution and who has the skills to do so.

Best of luck!

yeah I'm glad that they're trying to figure out what this is, 'cause I really don't want to go through yet another operation and then have this thing come back again. that'd suck. I don't know why they didn't do that in the first place? *sighs* crazy doctors
I can't wait till it's done with has me so stressed out.

You are sure gonna have a special understanding of the emotional state of labrats aren't you? :cuddle:

Good - I am so glad you are going to see another specialist! I know you're scared, and it's easy to be intimidated by doctors (even ones you trust) when you are so vulnerable. This is a pretty serious thing to put in the hands of one mind. If I were you I'd feel much better now to have 2 good minds monitoring & discussing it between them. (Phew, I feel better knowing you are going to have a second expert opinion).
Now you can really go into this knowing that what is necessary is necessary, not one doctor's opinion. I hope that helps you & Ang sleep better at night thru all that is to come.
You've got a lot of people on your side that are very experienced with hopes & prayers too!

Aww, must be so hard! Hope it'll be better. :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :wishes: :grouphug2: :roseopen: :redbud: :rose2: :thewave: :love6: :flower:
