1% Milk

Hello!!

Quick question because my boyfriend wants to give the rats some of his 1% milk because he thinks it's cute seeing rats drink milk. How often should I give them some or should I ask : can I give them some at all?

Rats can't process the lactose, it's not good for them at all. I wouldn't give them any ever.

As jorats said ... no milk.

Some people very infrequently will give a tiny bit of soy milk. Like all foods, watch sugar and salt content.

Thanks! Good thing I asked first. So no dairy at all? No cheese, milk of any kind, yogourt, ect?

No dairy... I think there's yogurt with no dairy, I may be wrong though...

Many people give occassional yogurt for the probiotics.

In small amounts I'm sure it would be absolutely fine.

I often give pieces of cheese as a treat.... Stereotypical, I know, but the rats go nuts for it. And many people give yoghurt as treats (I don't buy it because the stuff always goes bad before I eat it!).

Forgot about cheese... ya, all in moderation but I still wouldn't do milk.

I would think it's ok... but watch out for fat and protein content... Again, all in moderation makes it ok.

The bacteria in yogurt often makes it more digestible for people with minor lactose intolerance. You can also find Kefir which is apparently even better.
