Do you go outside with your rats?

I've been wondering about taking rats on road trips but there doesn't seem to be great information on how to do it and it does seem like it could be stressful. If you ever do, would definitely be interested in reading a post about it!

    Rats sneezing?

Just in case anyone reads this with a similar issue, they have stopped sneezing after these changes.

Can ANYTHING be done about a local business mistreating rats?

Sorry about that. Got it. And, of course, I agree.

Can ANYTHING be done about a local business mistreating rats?

I don't agree with feeding live animals, but I'm trying to make a point.

Can ANYTHING be done about a local business mistreating rats?

I think my review of this place says it all: "PLEASE DO NOT SHOP HERE FOR LIVE ANIMALS - FEEDERS OR PETS. HORRIFIED BY THE TREATMENT OF THEIR RATS. They are very disorganized and dirty, nothing like any other small pet stores I've seen. Luckily they don't seem to have very many live animals...

    Rats sneezing?

At this point their sneezing is mild, but is happening more often. They do it most often at night, in their cage. This makes it hard for me to tell exactly which of my three rats is sneezing, but I can tell it's mostly two of them. Last night, one of them had some noisier breathing for a bit. I...

How often do you wash hammocks?

I have been washing mine weekly when I do a cage cleaning. If I only use one hammock (which I tend to do often) I will swap it out for a clean one about halfway through the week if it starts to get dirty. Which is better - a clean hammock every week or every half a week? How often do you clean /...

Do you go outside with your rats?

In the past when I was little and my family had rats, we would take them outside on our shoulders walking around the neighborhood. I would really like to be able to go places with my current rats on my shoulder eventually, like on farther walks to the park, and be able to sit down with them...

Rats go to the bathroom everywhere?

I was so impressed when I first got my rats. I used a pie tin as a litter box, filled with Yesterday's News, and they were so good about using it - even going back in the cage to use it when free ranging. Surrounding the litter box was Carefresh bedding, which made a clear line between the...

    My Three Boys

I got these three boys (all dumbos) from a rat rescue in my area. I've had them a bit over three weeks now. They're my first boys. They were someone's pets who had to be re-homed due to moving so they were super friendly when I got them. I kept all of their names from the rescue. I had to...

    Are these mites?

I decided to wait a while before giving an update to see if things changed. For now, I think I can consider this over. Also, I actually read about the bran substance caused by mites on Rat Guide ( http://ratguide.com/health/integumentary_skin/ectoparasites.php ). Anyways, I haven't seen a large...

    Are these mites?

Also, I can't say exactly how much she gave them. She had to do some looking up to find the dosages and used a syringe to apply it. It definitely was more than just a drop like I have heard some people say to do, though. I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask about what they think.

    Are these mites?

I've had these rats a bit over two weeks now. I didn't notice the dots when I first got them from the rescue. I think maybe they picked it up from Carefresh that I didn't freeze long enough. She didn't do a skin scrape or anything like that, she just looked at their skin and fur to diagnose it...

    Are these mites?

So I went to the vet and it is indeed mites. At first she recommended ivermectin, but I asked about kitten revolution and she was able to give it to them right then and there. It's been probably a day and a half. Does anyone know when it should start working? I read 36 hours for dogs and cats...

    Are these mites?

Yeah they seem to have gotten more within the past day and looking at pictures of the lice, they look pretty similar. I'll message her, thanks!

    Are these mites?

I have three rats (1 black, 2 b&w). I've noticed small red/orange/brown flakes/specks on the white ones' fur (I'm sure they're on the black as well, but I can't see them). You can't really see their color but you can see their size in the photo. They don't have a lot of them and I only see...
