    Important questions!!

Likely yes, but both answers likely depend on the laws where you are. Regulations will likely be different for a domestic animal rescue than for a wildlife rescue, otherwise I'd suggest reaching out to your local rescues/rehabbers. If there are established, respected rat rescues in your area...

    Elderly male rat acting weird!!

What happened with your little old man?

    Today's rat mood: flat-out WEIRD

Do your beans ever just go weird for a day or so? This morning, our usually social trio would barely leave their DCN for playtime. One or both of us (The Mr. and I) are in the room with them all day, most times, or at least for several hours in the morning and again at night. Today, Oleksii...

Hello everyone, where are my original members 15 plus years!?

I don’t remember how long I’ve been here— long enough to have forgotten the password to my original account, at any rate. Welcome back! Those tiny guys are so freakin’ cute. 😁

Updated: Successful first intros with Oleksii, Lynda, and Dolly

Thanks? There are still only three rats in there. I wasn’t introducing anyone new. It took time for them to adjust to the new setup, but they’re okay with it now.

Updated: Successful first intros with Oleksii, Lynda, and Dolly

I've changed things around in their house, and now Lynda and Oleksii won't speak to me. Dolly, who I'd figured would be the one who most took issue with the changes, seems to be perfectly okay with the new setup. They'll come around in a few days, I think. I'll make a few tweaks, see what works...

Tilly… please help, very new to pet rat. She’s biting.

Oh no, please don’t put her in that ball. They’re not good for rats. Imagine how much you’d enjoy running around in your own waste, with poor ventilation and no ability to stretch all the way out (that tail has to go somewhere).

    My 4 Girls

Your beans are adorable! Love that nose triangle.

What are you doing these days? New Ratties? Trips? Making things?

I'm recovering from surgery, and Lynda is about to go in for a lumpectomy and spay. Her sister, Dolly, went through the same procedure a few months back; Lynda's tiny mass is in the exact same location (lowest left nipple). The mass is only about the size of a lentil, so we're catching it early...

Something lighter-- short and funny rat videos

It's been rough for a lot of folks lately. I thought maybe we could have a thread for funny/heartwarming rat videos for those who need a laugh or a mental hug. Rat clenches fist of rage (or, don't jump on your cagemates!) Rat can't walk with bread (hop hop hop)

    Hello

How old are they? How often do you handle them, and for how long? What sort of cage setup do they have? How about toys? What are you feeding them? How long have you had them? There are lots of possible contributing factors. The more you can tell us about their circumstances, the more help we...

    Food Do's and Dont's

That’s pretty much the opposite of what the article said. ”So, what do we know? There is evidence, (very poor quality evidence in my opinion), that high quantities of D-limonene given daily is linked to kidney issues in male rats. … Rats cannot physically drink enough orange juice per day to...

    Food Do's and Dont's

Here's an article on dispelling the "rats can't have citrus" thing. The author, Rachel Greenfield, says, "...the claim is false in a practical sense, but is based on real data that has been misinterpreted."

How long did it take your ladies to heal after a spay? Dolly is getting stir-crazy.

Last Wednesday, Dolly had a mammary mass removed. It was tiny, affecting only the lowest left nipple area. Since the vet was going to be down there anyway, I asked if a spay could be worked in. She said yes, and so it was done. Everything went smoothly! She’s healing nicely, but, given how...

    Mite treatment not working

It usually takes three doses, each a month apart. Otherwise, everything Rat_Friends said.

Aw no... I'm so sorry for your loss.

    New here from Toronto

Welcome to the fun! Your tiny fuzzies are adorable. Are Biscuit and Cream bonded? Do you plan to get him neutered so they can go back together?

My rat don’t want to do anything

Can you give him some mashed banana? Maybe if you mix a bit of softened Oxbow in with the mashed banana, he'll eat it. It sounds like he's an old man who is grieving his brother. Give him as much love as he'll accept, try different soft foods and things he usually enjoys. Let him have...
