Oakland Vet Clinic - Mahone Bay NS

Hi, I just have to put my two cents in about Dr. Greenlaw as well, she is wonderful. I'm in Lower Sackville, so it's a 45 min drive away, but worth it. She did Ozzie's neuter, and Ruby and Daisy's spay. Her prices don't even compare to the hundreds of dollars all of the local vets wanted for...

    Rat Playpen

I don't have a pic, but I use a baby playpen :) I got one second hand for $20, and it's easy to clean because the liner is wipable/stain proof. Plus, the ratties love climbing the mesh sides. Sometimes my 8 year old daughter will climb in there with them and let them use her as a climbing post.

Is Dr. Benjamin at the Sackville Animal Hospital?

Hi, we just called them today for pricing for my male rat to be neutered, and it was $220. That seems almost double other clinics! I have a great recommendation from Joanne on a vet in Mahone Bay, but since we are in Sackville, I wanted to price check locally, and let me tell you, and so far...

    Hello from Halifax

Thanks everyone :D I plan on taking some photos as soon as we get batteries for the camera. It shouldn't be so hard to come up with two AA batteries in the house, but most of them are toast. Two of my babies are siamese, and one I believe is called a hooded fawn :)

HELP! I think one of my new girls is a BOY!!!!

Well, the general consensus is.... baby boy gets a neuter! I have the info from Joanne about her vet, so I just need to call and see how old he needs to be. She's been super helpful, and very nice, even though I am in this predicament because I got babies off Kijiji instead of taking hers :emb...

HELP! I think one of my new girls is a BOY!!!!

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :gaah: My husband says we have to take it back to the guy we got him from!!!! I can't do that!! What if he becomes snake food? Or someone bad adopts him??? OMG, is nothing ever simple? I'd like to neuter him. How old do they need to be for that? If my husband...

HELP! I think one of my new girls is a BOY!!!!

Hmmmm. Well, after looking at this pic, I still don't know. There is def a bump down there, but not as developed as the pic of the boy. I also can't find any nipples. Maybe they are younger than the guy told me?? I'm trying to find a camera to take a pic.

HELP! I think one of my new girls is a BOY!!!!

So, I am a little worried. They are about 5 weeks. Two of them have nothing going on 'down there' but the other has what looks like a swollen lump with a line down the middle. I took her/him away from the other two, and put her in a temp carrier. What do I do now???????? How long before I know...

    Rat Blocks in Halifax Area?

Thanks for the info everyone :) So it sounds like I should get the blocks locally for now, until I order the better ones for the long haul. They are quite young, so I'll also make sure I get some bay food and good fruits and veg into them. And I had never even thought of eggs, I will make them...

    Hello from Halifax

Hi, I'm new to the board, but I'm not new to rats :) I previously had 18 rats (15 of my own and three fosters) over a five year period. I haven't had any for a few years, but 2 days ago I got three baby girls. I'm excited to have ratties again! I used to be on the old PetRatsCanada forum, so I...

    Rat Blocks in Halifax Area?

I need to go out this weekend and pick up a supply of rat blocks. I'm in Lower Sackville, so does anyone have any recommendations on which place to go in the HRM? My little ones are about 4-5 weeks old, so should I also be supplementing with baby food? I've never had rats this young, so I want...

Have homes for Petunia's babies now!

No, I used to have rats, but the last ones passed away about 4 years ago. I had 18 in total over a five/six year period, some from Christina (theratlady) and some from others who couldn't keep theirs. Honestly, the reason I don't have any now is because I needed a break from the sadness that...
