I'm trying to figure out if my youngest boy Boots is Argente or Fawn, but the websites I have been to give conflicting information.

Some say Argente have a cream undercoat, and Fawn grey, and other websites say the other way around!

So I'm calling in the experts .. you guys!

Also, at this time it is hard to see if my boys undercoat is grey or cream - it looks slightly grey.

I'm guessing rats colours develop more as they grow? (He is 9weeks currently)

Thanks!

While I'm not well-versed on fawn versus argente (because I honestly don't care about color too much), Google says argente rats look like apricot rats, but with white/cream underbellies and orange guard hairs. Fawn have grey guard hairs.

This is what I was looking at: http://crescenityrattery.weebly.com/colours.html (I know we don't support breeding here, but this is what I used for reference as colors)

Most people do not make the distinctions between the different types of fawn - and I assume these divisions are relatively recent as breeders come up with new names for different genetic combinations.

and apricot coloured rats are a type of fawn ...... which imo would mean argente coloured rats are a type of fawn

Lilspaz68 is the best person to answer your question as she knows a great deal about rat genetics
