Charlie is beautiful!

I agree having a rat neutered or spayed is very expensive. New Maryland prices are about the same price at SouthPaw. On the plus side, I found neutering aggressive or biting males helped a great deal. I had one boy who use to draw blood and bully his cage mates, but now that he is neutered he's a real cuddle bug.

What Ratsforever said.
The vet you will want at this clinic is Dr Scott Stewart.
He is very experienced in treating rats.
He has neutered and spayed many rats for me and for godmother as well as tumor removals, an eye removal, etc.
All rats I am aware of came through surgery just fine.

The spays this clinic has done for me have cost around $150 - $160 including meds, with neuters costing around $90 to $100. I have had rats spayed and neutered this summer and the prices were as quoted above.
Costs have likely increased as the costs of gas, meds etc has increased.

Edit: I was at the vets today and asked. I can pm you the prices if you want.
They are similar to those I have written above.

Seriously?
That is insane!
I've had cats neutered for less!

That's SUCH an amazing price I'm practically drooling.

It's not uncommon here to have a rat spay cost $250-$300, or a neuter be $150-$200.

Thank you.
And I hope it'll calm him down.. because it's really saddening that he became so aggressive all of a sudden.

Alright, I'll ask for him when I decide to get him done.. sadly.. it will only be after Christmas.. when I'll have spare money again..
Thank you!

An update: Dr Scott Steward now owns the Islandview clinic
He remains the best rat vet I am aware of in NB (and likely the Maritimes)
He has pretty much seen it all over the last 13 years of treating rats

I highly recommend Dr Scott Stewart as a great vet for rats
