2.) Health care!! I have crohn's disease, and I've looked at the research you guys are doing in terms of stem cell research and MMJ, and you are far a head of the US... so thats promising... Canada will probably cure crohn's, and people here will be all "BUT ITS AGAINST GOD!!!" I mean really... these people just don't understand stem cells at all.

Do those of us a favor who do believe in God and don't generalize. Thank you. :redhot:

Just because you believe does not mean that everyone does. No disrespect but she has the right to post or phrase how she chooses to. For you to ask her to change that is totally unfair.

Dont let this thread turn sour.

Oooh, I have one to add!

In Ontario, landlords can't put "no pet clauses" on your lease. I.E. as long as your pet isn't a danger to others, you can keep them in your rental home or apartment. I love it!

if this is your cup of tea...there is also this "opportunity" in Ontario... :wink2:

In 1996 the Province of Ontario, Canada's most populous provice, became legally topfree due to a criminal court challenge by Gwen Jacob. Because the highest court in Ontario was interpreting a Canadian federal law, this case has set an important precedent for all of the other provinces in Canada. Attempts to change the law to re-criminalize women have not been supported by Canadian voters.

That sounds wonderful. If I didn't have my roots deeply entrenched here, I'd say look out Canada, here I come!

yes but does anyone really go topless?
I know we have some clothing optional beaches in CA and probably other places too, but they are difficult to access (must walk in) to discourage ppl who just want look and to make it difficult for someone with children to stumble across unawares.

I would have loved this option when I was younger, now at my age, it just wouldn't be fair to anyone within viewing distance

of course, I would only opt to go topless at a beach or back yard or something like that, not just walking around town. You know, any where that you'd see a shirtless guy and think nothing of it.

It'll be easier for me if I just list flaws in Canada.
I lived in the states until I was 21, and have been living in Canada since 2009.

Canada's Flaws
[1] Hulu doesn't work :c
[2] Expensive/Limited internet
[3] Netflix selection isn't as good.

Those are really the only three issues I have. :giggle:

If I ever moved to Canada... I would have one to add.... French!

You are looking at the world's WORST French student! I was such a mess at sentence structure that the teacher only passed me because she knew how hard I was trying to "get it".

Love the language but learning it just seems to be downright impossible for me. C'est la vie (yes... I did manage that much!!!)

LOLOLOL!!! Althea, you always crack me up!!
:hugs:

if I recall correctly, it all started with a woman, seeing her neighbor mowing the grass shirtless and she wanted to have the same priviledge.

Ontario women wanted to make a statement, and since that day the law passed and they had a parade with topless women, I don't think there has been too many... :giggle:

on a side note,I really don't want to start yet another "political" debate, I think the shack got its share of that already today, so if anyone is interested in reading more about this Ontarian Law,accurate info and details can be found online

I am sorry if that statement offended you. I my self am a very Christian person, but I interpret the bible dry differently than most Christians I know. What frustrates me is that the "Christian right" uses their interpretation of the bible to try to make laws. I don't believe the bible says the things they believe, and I don't want laws made to reflect that. Just as non-Christian peoPle should not be forced to follow Christian laws. (I can't come up with a good example for this, but it would be like banning pork because the ruling class is Jewish)

Making a law that no one can work on Sunday because it is a day of rest :) That we must not wear clothing of mixed fibers. That you must not sit on or lay in the bed of a female who has her period because it is unclean. Always wearing white. You can't trim the corners of your beard. Killing someone who commits adultery..

Just so you know, you don't have to speak French in Canada, at all. In most provinces, it's less prominent than Spanish is in many parts of the US. Only Quebec has it as a primary language, but even in Montreal almost everyone speaks English. In other provinces, few people really speak French.

I say yes to moving to Canada.

Although the pit bull ban in Ontario stinks.

But the main reason to move to Canada? WE'RE AWESOME!

I lived in Québec for most of my life (30+ yrs), lives in Ontario for a few year as well as in Manitoba for a short time :)

unless you meant in other provinces, I have to disagree with your statement "In other cities, few people really speak French"...

other than Montreal, where English is spoken currently, specially for business, the rest of the province is VERY much so french speaking. We even have the law 101, which protects French in Québec. Now, most Québecois are bilingual, so it is very easy for an english speaking person to communicate.

In Ontario, the closest to the Québec border you are, the more french you will hear. Cornwall, where I lived for 3 yrs, is a good example of that, Ottawa comes to mind and Hull as well.
for the rest of the country, french is spoken is some of the maritimes and well as in St-Boniface. Manitoba.

^ Yeah, I meant in other provinces, thanks for catching that.

I do find a lot of French in Ottawa...but it's not necessary.

My point was that you don't need to know French at all to live most places in Canada (though, I've lived in countries where English wasn't spoken much, and I had to learn a new language, so really, I know you can get by without speaking the dominant language anyway!).

Most Canadians I know know just a little bit of French. Je m'apelle, bonjour, merci, and that's it.

No harm done. It is a touchy subject, I think, for everyone. :hugs:

I belong to a Church where individual interpretations of the Bible are welcome. Trust me, I have PLENTY of questions on some of what I read in the Bible and my Church is a place where I can go to ask my questions. They do not believe that the Bible is a word for word dictation of how people are supposed to live. They see it as a guideline, open to interpretation, for people to refer to when the need arises.

Like you, I am not a fan of anyone trying to cram their religion down my throat... especially not a Government. There is a valid reason why we need to separate Church from State. I don't need any arrogant "higher up" to dictate to me how to interpret the Bible or how to live my life. Until that person has walked a mile in my shoes they are in no position to dictate anything to me. They can voice their views and opinions but the buck stops there. They won't be going to bat for me when my time comes and I get to answer to the guy upstairs.

What I find irritating is that the U.S. Government seems to be acknowledging every form of Religion except Christianity. Despite my dislike of right wing radical tending Republicans, trying to force their beliefs on the people of this country, I am not surprised that this has become an issue. When you try to quell or eradicate a Religion... people are going to react by broadcasting their beliefs everywhere they can. If the feds want to keep Religion off of the streets and in people's homes, then they need to do it with ALL religions in the United States and not just the one(s) they want to "blame" for being most prevalent. Most Western Civilizations were founded on Catholic or Christian ideology. Try telling Europe to get rid of the crosses and statues of the Virgin Mary from the borders of their towns and cities... they will tell you where to stuff it.

I still think I would be laughed right out of the country.... :laugh4:

you would not be laughed at lol... I live pretty much beside quebec.. I live in pembroke.. I dont even know one sentence in french, not one... I failed french. still through out my life Ive met more english people then french and most french people can speak english. french is insanely hard to learn because the language isnt set up like others.. for example german is suppost to be one of the easiest to learn if you are english because those to languages were created from eachother.

oh and canadians rock! I just find(and of course not all!) but we are like the more laid back family member and the states is the sightly more uptight family member LOL AGAIN I KNOW NOT EVERYONE! there are plenty of MEAN pople in Canada lol. Im living in a smaller town so differences isnt really liked here.. but you drive just 2 hours away to ottawa and you see every type of person and every sexual orientation!

Ontario I believe is one of the most expensive places in canada though if I am correct? Its illegal for landlords to not allow pets BUT Almost all landlords tell you not to have pets and write it in the lease(yes they do it illegally) that being sad they still cant kick you out if you have a pet. While the free health care is good here our healthcare system needs a kick in the ass.. its slow and we are lackng in doctors in many areas.

THE LAND IS BEAUTIFUL IN CANADA! WE STILL HAVE TREES AND MOUNTAINS! LOL What I do not like though is that Canada is actually on the low end of the list for animal rights.. we are still fighting to match other areas :/

Why don't you come to Australia!? It's so laid back here and it's always warm (mostly) where I live - it's sub tropical. Religion doesn't play a huge part in a lot of people's lives here. I've also heard that we swear a lot and drink too much - gosh I'm not making it sound like such a great place. But...we have a female prime minister, a female governor and the premier of our state is female too :joy:

That being said, I think they will probably get voted out on the next round of elections, they're all labour and things haven't being going too well under the labour governments (I think that must be equal to your conservatives?? Because the other side are called liberals) but this global financial thing isn't helping them much either.

Our health care system is apparently better than Canada's and the US's and...ummmm....we have kangaroos...?!

But we're so far from every where it costs a lot to go anywhere AND there are hardly any good rat vets here.

Oh and just have to mention that our dollar is a wee bit better than the US & CAD at the mo....sorry, couldn't help myself.... :giggle:
Give it a few months and I'm sure we'll be lower again though.
