Hope's Rescued rats, adoptables and lifers- December Update

Boy, that's a pile of PTs to treat. Thankfully I have ever only had one at a time.

Timmy seems to be circling a fair amount. At least he is bright and energetic. How long has he been on a steroid?

Since tuesday then we stopped saturday. Sunday he was to sleepy and titly and we put him back on it on sunday. The spin he does is odd, it is always when he is looking for something like his food or moving it around. He walks nromal then he has these odd moments where he is looking for food or eating food and he moves it around oddly. That is when he does his spinning.

Tiny Tim has testicles He went two days at 43 grams today he finally weighed 45 grams. Hopefully he can gain more. He is a funny boy. He is constantly pushing his food around and tossing it aside when he doesnt want to eat it.

We lost Ratatouille he was adopted and returned about a year later. He has been here since last winter. He was unexpected but sadly all these boys it is expected. He was part of the michigan hoarder I made all those bins for 2 years ago and all have had heart problems. He is related to the agouti boys that dsptch911 has and sadly all the boys have had issues and left suddenly. Ratty was living with Bumblebee his brother and then we had Daryl and Merle who were living together who happen to be their identical brothers as well. Merle was so mean during intros I gave up on them. So i left them at 2 and 2. We found Merle gone last month and so shortly after I was able to get Daryl with Bumblebee and Ratty. Glad I did because now they have each other.

We have a lot of PT cases right now and a lot of tumors. Little Georgia who had a tumor removed last month has pt but is responding to meds. Irish and Maggie both have PT and they are doing ok. Irish has some really bad days but in all he is maintaining. Zeus has PT, she is on the end part of it, she is losing her ability to move. She can move but she is awkward. My sweet turtle my handicap baby has PT but she is gaining the use back in her front legs, she was struggling but still eating.

we have 4 oldies down here. Trey is about 2.5 my 3 legged boy, PJ, related to the agouti boys with problems, Brain who had that horrible black spot removed from his testicle, and Juney who is over 2.5 as well. We keep them at arms reach just in case. along with the handicap bubs who have been moved downstairs as well.

I have Elvis scheduled for a neuter he was the tail injury boy which it is finally healed. we got the dead part to be just about healed and infection free and he some how managed to damage a about a 1/4 of inch above the dead part. It has sense fell off and he has a beastly tail. Poor guy he wont leave me any time soon to much work put into him. He will get girlfriends now LOL

On monday the 8th we have Elvis for a neuter. Colt for a neuter, Morganna Tumor removal, Astyrd a spay, and Lola for a tumor removal, lola is on loan to my friend jim so his lone boy Ben has a buddy to live with. He is neutered so she is safe there. Spoiled I am sure.

There is always so much going on at your place! I don't know how you have the fortitude to carry on some days.
Congratulations on the latest set of testicles! LOL. I just wanted to get a wet Kleenex and scrub that little boy's face.

We keep cleaning his face and he messes it again. He is like having a toddler around. He is just a mess. I put food in his cage and he tossed it all around like he was havng a temper tantrum over it being in there. I dont know what his deal is with moving food around but he does it all the time. He is something else.

Maisey lived 6 months with a tumor we found out she had at about 6 months old. This baby came into life without a chance in hell. She lost this fight tonight and to say I am shattered is an understatement. She was an amazing girl. Always came when her name was called, always full of kisses, loved to be around people. I am shattered over her death tonight even though she went to sleep and just did not wake up. She was cuddled by zeus and Turtle with kait near them. I am angry that she is a year old and was put through this solely because a petstore carelessly takes in rats from a horrible breeder. I am hurt because I watched this amazing little girl just turn into a massive tumor and never once lose her shine. It isnt fair that a 6 month old rat had a tumor that we wouldnt remove. It isnt fair that she died at a year old. It isnt fair that I dont get to enjoy her till her senior years. I am so upset over this. I should be in bed but the tears and heartache is taking over. This petstore is the same one who gave me my handicap babies. The same one who has had rats with the worst genes ever. My heart is a little harder now towards careless breeding if you wonder why look at this face. Play hard at the bridge baby girl. I was blessed to have you in my care and I am shattered by your loss and that is all you ever asked for was to be loved. I loved you.... I cry for you.

I'm so sorry you have lost one of your heart rats. It is never easy to say goodbye, but especially hard when they have so much more living to do.

I'm so sorry for your pain Hope. I too have felt the same anger, heartache and cried the same tears. I hear you totally. It was a miracle at all that Maisey found you and had the lovely quality of life she had. I can see why you adored her so much. Babes like her get under my skin in a big way. I'm hoping you managed to sleep even a little despite your pain. But I'm guessing you had a rough night. Those nights are tough to get through aren't they. I've been there. Thinking of you! Take comfort in all your other babies and be proud of the wonderful, merciful, amazing, animal loving person that you are. because you should be! Please don't harden up that precious heart of yours. The world needs it badly, and it needs it whole xx

Timmy 12 days into being here. Give or take a few days. tuesday it will be 2 weeks so I am close LOL
he is on zithro one time a day, baytril 2 times a day and steroid every other day. we stopped the steroid and he relapsed horribly. every day seems like to much for his little body so every other day seems to be working. He is walking very well today.

He is loving baby food so that is what we are mainly giving him along with lab blocks and other stuff that we think he might eat. He is only 47 grams. so he lost again and then gained... hopefully he will start gaining on a regular basis.

Surgery day is monday for a group of rats. Hopefully I dont forget who i set it up for and dont forget to take them in LOL

Hey little man! It's hard to believe he hasn't put on a pile of weight yet, but he certainly looks a lot healthier now, and he is getting to live his happy little rattie life. Are there any little ones he can socialize with?

Not here. We dont have babies this small. Obviously cant put him with any other rat either due to his size. I want him to get better he is still sneezing with a discharge I know he doesnt feel well and one day I thought he would go to pneumonia you could tell he was sick. He has a lot going on and is getting a lot of meds so I am sure being that tilty and spinning his stomach gets upset. He has bad days where it is hard to get him to eat alot

On May 26th, 2013 I drove 260 miles round trip to take in 4 girls. Zeus, Rapunzel, Dru and Peach. Their owner had the girls in a cage that was not escape proof for these master escape artists. Zeus found her way to the boys and 15 babies later, she was rehomed. I took in the 4 older girls, peach and dru were over a year old and left us a while ago, zeus and Rappy would be two in December. Sadly a few months ago Zeus was hit with PT. It just has broken my heart to watch this master of destruction turn into one that can hardly move. With in the first day of coming here, they made and emergency exit in my cage, from that day forward they were in nothing but metal. Zeus was so full of life and love, although she had no time for cuddles she was an on the go girl. Impossible to intro to other girls but they were Great with the wild stallion Remy. They have lived happily with Remy for a while now. Sadly my beautiful Zeus lost her battle with PT last night. I am going to miss her sweet face, her crazy antic and the life she has brought to the rat room itself. Play hard at the bridge baby girl. I got your sister safe and sound till you meet again.

I'm very sorry for your loss Hopefloats yet so happy she got to live with you. Even if she was too busy for cuddles I know you gave her a good home.

My friend jim was down to one rat Ben, So he has my Lola who developed a tumor on "loan" I rat sat little ben for a week and while he was here I let him hang out with the girls. Maisey was on her death bed and I knew that Lola would be alone soon. So we put maisey back with the group of girls, sent lola packing to stay with Jim and Ben. I found a small tumor on her but when I picked her up from Jims the stress of the drive I though I seen "heart problem" breathing on her. I tried to listen but couldnt tell for sure so I took her in for surgery to be listened to prior to surgery. Sadly the sweet girl does have a heart problem and the tumor is so small we wont worry about removing it. I believe this set up with Jim and Ben will be good for her. Quieter and no other rat smells and Jim spoils those babies so she will have a good life while she is there. She tends to get a little puffy and stressed here so it is a double win for us both.

We did go through and get surgeries done. Momma Astryd was spayed finally and may have a home in a few weeks. Daddy Grant was neutered after I tried to introduce his group to the 5 boys and they ended up being bitten by daddy. So he will learn to play by my rules now No more testicles for him

Morgana who came from a shelter in dupage county a few months ago was Spayed and had a tumor removed. She had a small one and hopefully the spay will prevent any more from coming up.

Elvis my boy who kept damaging his tail was neutered to lower his stress he is all healed from the tail now and a big boy, on his way to being a big cuddle bug now

4 cages on the way for surgeries. THis is why i have an SUV

6 on the way home. Sally had to go in to have a tumor looked at to see if we can remove it. It is an inguinal tumor so I wasnt sure if he could remove it or not. Turns out he can. She lives with Charlie the boy who attacks me and hates other rats but her. She was surrendered by animal control it was a nephews rat that he lost interest in. Her tumor can be removed which i will be scheduling soon.

I did intros with astryd and her babies to a group of girls then introduced them to the other rats their age. Rj and Dirk live with them as well. for a total of 17 girls and 2 boys. So 19 rats in a group I moved them into a triple Critter nation so they could have space and it seems to be going well.

They love the big hunk of man-rat Rj- These two boys were neutered due to be total jerks and I put them with the girls and it have been bliss. So they are living out their life with a bunch of younger crazy girls Every man rats dream right?

Remy and rapunzel are doing well after zeus's death. I was worried about Rappy because they were together their whole life. Remy is another mean boy cured by a neuter the sweetest boy around now. I just love this guy.

Goldie's babies. Well they are a year old now LOL but they still dont care for me, but i can pick them up and hold them but they dont like it

Allanah and Abraham. She was pulled from our big group so he wouldnt be alone.

I moved the shelf for the handicap babies downstairs. Their cage is a 47inch rabbit cage so it needs a huge shelf for it.

Split into two sections holds Tank and Diesel up top and Otto and Clay on the bottom.

3 sections. Tip top is Molly, Clair and Hershel. The girls were serial tail biters and after a blood splattering event from tailing biting they were moved to the top.

Bumble bee and Daryl live in the middle and Rex and his 3 boys live in the bottom.

This is two groups. Aaron and Colt one of Goldies babies on top and Jackson, oliver, Daddy, Grant, sully and martin on the bottom two sections.

I get excited seeing an empty cage LOL but I havent moved anyone in there yet. I am leaving it open just for the "feel" of it. The cage next to the single houses Allanah and Abraham on top and Charlie and Sally on the bottom.

on the left we have goldies 6 boys on top, and Cruella and medusa on bottom. I am planning on moving them around to get the boys more room but I just havent came up with a plan just yet The cage next to it has Patches and Ruby up top and on the bottom is where Remy and Rapunzel live.

We have a group of older girls downstairs 9 of them in a feisty ferret cage. The 5 baby boys of astryd and our 4 oldies that need to be with us in critter nation down there. and a few random cages that house elvis and Timmy.
The handicap babies and Irish, maggie and Katara, which are two pt rats and one with a tumor we need to watch is in the cage above the handicap babies. i am trying to keep the sick ones with us in the living room and the others up stairs. We switch the rats out of the feisty ferret cage or put some in the other cage we have set up so they can be with us to. This way we can give them social time as well.
