    Ghost 07/16 - 07/11/18

I’m sorry about your little Ghost. She looks like she was a real sweetheart and that she had a great life with you.

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

I’m so sorry for your loss. Dealing with pituitary tumours is never easy and I have always found it very overwhelming how quickly they change from it. It was kind of you not to put her through anything she couldn’t handle and to do the best thing for her when the time was right.

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

I’m sorry that Zoe’s getting worse again. Putting her down will be difficult but you will be making the best decision for her. It’s awful for us to have to decide when it’s time but it’s best to do it before they suffer too much.

My rat was in a "coma"...

She may have been unconscious for the majority of the time she was in the box alone and just “woke up” again when you went to see her. Either way, you were there for her in the last moments of her life and that’s all that matters. I’m sorry for your loss.

    Puffy eye

I’m glad to hear that he’s feeling better! It certainly could’ve been a reaction to the eye lubricant or maybe there was some debris that worked it’s way out. Either way, hopefully he keeps feeling better!

Help with giving liquid meds please!!!

Chocolate syrup always works for me. Giving pain meds is so frustrating because they need them but they don’t understand that. I hope that something works for you! I would also recommend having someone help you with meds. Having someone to hold/syringe while you do the other makes it much...

    Puffy eye

I completely forgot that their eyes would get squinty when they had debris in them, not bulging. Poor little guy, it does look pretty sore. Is it just the picture, or is his right paw a little swollen too? I know, it is daunting to have to check their eyes constantly. Most of my guys would get...

    Pumpkin

I would think that it should last for a week or two. As long as it smells the same, is not getting too liquidy, and doesn't have any mold on it, you should be good.

    Puffy eye

Can you post a picture? Eye drops that are given to you by a vet will be sterile, so there's no chance of them introducing bacteria into the eye. I'm not sure what you mean by the eye being puffy. Do you mean that the area around the eye is swollen? Or that the eye is bulging out of the socket a...

    Is my baby rat pregnant??

Yes, tissue will definitely stick to the babies. I used paper towel or toilet paper and it also stuck to the babies so I think fleece is a great idea.

"Out of the woods" Age for Rat Pups?

Adorable! The same thing happened to me actually. I got a “male” buddy for my lone boy, and it just dawned on me all of a sudden that “he” was a she! I was so careful with the babies because another litter would have been a disaster, especially because she had 16 babies (10 that lived). I...

"Out of the woods" Age for Rat Pups?

In my experience, it was after the first week. The first week was when the babies that weren’t going to make it didn’t.

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

She might have a food aversion. This is something that happens in humans but might be more common in animals like rats that can’t vomit. When an animal is sick, sometimes they associate something as having made them sick. In the case of a food aversion, it would be the food that they associate...

    Respiratory Issue?

Ok so on Sunday night she was breathing so slowly and looking so bad that I put some drops of FerretRX in her litter boxes. It is a mix of some oils and kind of like Vicks for rats. That was the only thing that I had changed and Monday was the day where I saw improvement with her breathing...

My rats eye is injured I just need help

I had a hamster once whose eye fell out completely out of nowhere and it sounds pretty much the same as what’s happening to your guy. His eye just started bulging until it just pushed out of his head without shriveling or anything. I think it was a genetic defect because of how pet store...

pregnant rat only had 3 babies

I wasn’t sure exactly how old my girl was either, but I guessed based on the estimated age of one of my males when I got him. Do you have any other rats that you can compare her age to? Do you know what her weight is or what it was before she had the babies?

    Baytril - all or nothing?

With stubborn rats, I either just syringe it in their mouths or mix it with something very strong tasting like a syrup. A little goes a long way so you don’t have to add too much to make it tasty. I also thicken it with baby cereal to make it easier to syringe and not accidentally push in too...

pregnant rat only had 3 babies

How old is she? My mama rat was around 4ish months old and had 16 babies. Has it been 2 hours since she’s had a baby or 2 hours since she started? Mine had babies over a 2-4 hour period as far as I remember and there were fairly long breaks in between some of them. I think if she isn’t even...

    Medicine help

You will need a vet at some point in the lives of your little ones, so you should look for one as soon as you can. That being said, they sound like they may be able to wait long enough for you to order some meds. I would keep them on the amoxicillin while you’re waiting though, it’s great for...
