Question to the long time rat moms and dads - do rats cry when sad, and shed tears as a result, like us?
Reason for the question - Our Cookie who is an almost 2 year old male. He is getting very old and weak day by day, we started having to feed him soft food with a syringe. I started noticing in the last few feedings that his eyes would well up with tears... I was heartbroken when I saw that as I imagined he was crying as he senses he will be leaving us soon... They are our first pet rats and in the almost 2 years we had them I never saw this, and had no idea whether rats cry like us or not. I guess it could be a result of his body condition or hidden illness too. Has anybody experienced something similar and could tell if their ratties was crying?
