Penny doing better. Had respiratory scare!

Ugh. I just tried to inject her and it did not go well. She shrieked, turned around and bit me. Mind you I know what I'm doing with the needle as it is part of nursing. Now what? Any recommendations for doing this by myself?

Do they know anything about rats?
An uneducated ER vet is sometimes worse than waiting.

Well I don't know them but I called ahead and they said they see rats. She has to be rehydrated. She had not ingested in over 9 hours.

The vet seems knowledgeable.

She is in an oxygen chamber. They will be giving sub q fluids and antibiotics. Also getting an xray.

She has decompensated a lot and is in severe distress. In a matter of hours it has spread from upper to lower airway.

I had to leave her there. She has become oxygen dependent and is nearly unresponsive. The vet gave her a 50/50 shot.

Too bad vet didn't give her dexamethasone, it gives them such a good boost. I hope she's ok this morning. What an ordeal for you. I'm so sorry you are both going through this.

Oh hunny, pneumonia is such a wretched thing to deal with.

When I sub-q I will give up to 10 ml's in one go, using a 10 ml syringe and butterfly needles (I prefer 23 gauge over 25 gauge needles, a little more stick but the fluid goes in faster). I either put it under the scruff or under the thinner skin of the flank. You could also inject the gent with the sub-q fluids as well.

I hope they are able to save her for you ((hugs))

I've called a couple of times this morning and the vet says she is trying comfortably but hasn't made much progress.

Just got Penny back home. She is eating and drinking on her own and not in nearly as much distress. There has been measurable improvement! Thanks for all your best wishes.

Any advice on what to mix clavamox with to make it palatable? Sweet potato ain't workin'.
It stinks like sulfur.
