Hi, almost two weeks ago we brought home our very first rats - Marbles and Scabbers. They have been together since leaving the store. A few days ago I noticed Scabbers smelt like urine, today I noticed Marbles pooping on her. Poor Scabbers looks so upset and sad.

I tried to clean her up a couple times today to get the smell off, but this is a useless defeat.

Anyone know why and how I can get Marbles to stop this?

Thank you in advance for reading and any help you may have.

I did see Marbles do this, now I haven't seen her do it since that one time.

I am not sure of their age, we got them from the pet store 2.5 weeks ago - they are babies.

older rats will mark one another with urine - because they are territorial
but I have never heard of popping on another rat,
and babies are not territorial so do not urine mark
however, babies of all species eat a lot and poop a lot

Perhaps it happened just because they are babies, and does not mean anything

Thank you for your reply SQ. You mentioned babies poop alot, does this mean it will eventually not be so much poop and possibly easier to litter train them as they get older?
