I just rehomed two old boys of 3.5yrs. They were brought into the rescue by a family who had been treating them badly (they were covered in mites, grease and wounds). They had a serious fight which left one with a huge gash which has since healed, and they think this fight is why the owners gave them up. The shelter separated them And were attempting to rehome them as lone rats . It made me sad so I took both home.

I have 5 rats already in a very large cage and then I have two additional cages (one for each of the new boys). I am prepared to keep them this way forever however I would for their sake like to reintroduce them or at least shuffle my Existing rats around. Within my five I have a bonded pair and then a little trio. They all get on fine but they tend to separate into these little bundles.

I don’t have experience with introducing ‘aggresssive’ rats but I thought I should at least try as no one else was going to. Would really really appreciate a step by step approach to do this please! It’s breaking my heart seeing them alone. One is super friendly and is clearly enjoying my company however the other isn’t fussed so I am mostly concerned about him. :/

The join rats page that I linked also has a whole section on intros for aggressive rats that might be helpful :)
