One of my rats died and I am trying to find a new friend for my remaining rat but none of the pet sores I went to before have rats in stock. Does anyone know where to get a rat in the Kansas City area? I want a female, not white rat.

I'd take a look at the ratteries in your area.

I am sure that doing some googling will find other ratteries - there are usually several.
The reason I prefer ratteries to pet shops is often pet shops are less concerned about the overall health of their rats. Many pet shops also have snakes and other carnivores, and will feed ill rats to their other animals, etc.
Ratteries are more sustainable, focused exclusively on breeding for pets, and often the rats are of better lineage and quality as matings are carefully selected and paired for their ability to pass down their traits rather than bulk breeding pet shop milled rats.
