My Tokyo just lost all control of limbs and cant walk anymore, ive had 6 mammory tumors removed off her in the last year and I think she has a pituitary tumor. My last baby suffered when she died and I dnt want this to happen to her. Her quality of life is gone as she cant move. I dnt wanna take her to the vet because they wont let me have her body to bury her. I know this is a hard question to ask but is there a humane way to let her go at home? Thats quick and painless. My heart hurts right now and idk what else to do... please help me

I'm SO sorry you didn't get any help or support when you & Tokyo were suffering. I think most people feel that a vet is the only right way to put a baby to sleep.
It's been 2 days, I expect you've found a way to help Tokyo by now. I'm sorry for what you've been going thru.

Actually, to my surprise she is doing better!! I gave her meloxicam and she went from not walking to walking i been feeding her, she isnt well but she is better so hopefully i can get her to the vet this week. Im pretty sure she has PT and i think the meds i gave her helped with the inflammation i am out of that now but been trying to figure out if i can give her some baby ibuprofen??

Fantastic! I was worried about you when I read this.
Yes, you can use ibuprofen! lilspaz68 says: similar action as Metacam but must be given every 4-6 hours initially to work. 20 mg/kg every 4-8 hours is an effective dose. Advil pediatric drops are the best ones if you can get them. Children's is half the concentration so your doses will be bigger than infant. Do not use long term if possible.
Do you know to give her extra calorie Ensure if she has trouble eating but is still enjoying life? You can put it in a syringe and she likely will lick it off as you push the plunger-thing..
Aww, I send Tokyo love, scritches & kisses. And hugs to you.

lilspaz68 said: 20 mg/kg every 4-8 hours .. You can find the strength of the drops on the package. Are you able to do the math to figure out how much to give?

If she has PT the only thing that really works is steroids. But if she's doing better on meloxicam it may be something else including a stroke which some rats can recover from.

Cabergoline is the only thing working for my girl with PT, the DeX shot didnt really help much but the cabergoline was like a miracle. Trixie was on deaths door and now completely back to her normal spunky self :)

That's unusual that steroids didn't help at all unless the dose was too small to affect the tumour? But cabergoline and bromocriptine when they work can really give wonderful results...I'm glad it did for you :)

Cabergoline only works on the most common type of pituitary tumour, called a prolactinoma. You should see signs of improvement in a couple of days. I've used the daily Bromocriptine myself. Is she still able to eat soft foods on her own, drink on her own etc? if not you can try to syringe fluids and liquid food replacements into her mouth to support her until the Cabergoline starts to work.

Hi, I am very sorry this is happening..
Your girl needs to be put on oral baytril plus either prednisone or dexamethasone …… If she has pt she will need to be on them the remainder of her life. The steroid (pred or dex) is to reduce the inflammation and hopefully reduce the symptoms. This will give her some more good quality time depending on how fast the tumor is growing.
The most common type of pt will also respond to cabergoline and bromocriptine. Cabergoline is more expensive but only given every 72 hours (amount is based on weight and is often half a pill), is more effective and rats can tolerate the side effects better.

Here is some vet approved information that gives treatment information Health Guide: Pituitary Tumor

Links re medication are:

My little girl Zoe started showing signs of pt last week and she is doing much better on pred + baytril.
I hope your little girl has a lot of good time left with you
