Hey all. After a couple of years lurking The Rat Shack forums, I finally decided to join. It's a great community with loads of experience, resources, and anecdotes from what I've seen. Now that I feel more experienced in terms of rat kinship, I'm hoping to offer what help or useful tidbits I can. I'm pretty obsessed with rats now, honestly, and highly recommend them as companions. In addition to 3 rats currently (and 5 over the years), my husband and I also have a black cat named Toothless, who is one of the most loyal critters ever (especially to my husband).

From left to right or top to bottom:
Mercy [deceased, kidney/respiratory failure] - May 2017 to October 1, 2019
Luka [deceased, cancer] - May 2017 to August 28, 2019
Bianca - Unknown birthday, approximately 3 years old. Likes to sleep in odd positions.
Ripley (formerly Squeak) - Born August 17/19, 2019. Adopted from the Ottawa Pet Rat Rescue.
Pidge (formerly Cricket) - Born August 17/19, 2019. Also adopted from the Ottawa Pet Rat Rescue.

We've had Ripley and Pidge for just under a week, and they're already adjusting beautifully. The moments Bianca has had with the two young ones are already beyond what we expected - she adores them, and their playfulness is rubbing off on her. Even for an old lady, she's eager to squirrel-hop and run around with the babies. Though she only spent one week alone after Mercy passed, the toll of losing her cagemate definitely showed.

Welcome! They are super adorable! I'm Joanne Cote Bouchard on FB and part of the Ottawa Pet Rat rescue. Thank you so much for adopting!

Oh nice! So glad to meet another local rat friend. You're welcome. The two have been such a joy so far, I wouldn't have it any other way. Adoption is my plan for all future rats, too.

I wish I was local, I live in Sudbury but I've know Rachel for quite some time and she asked me to be part of the board of directors for OPR rescue. I'm so happy to meet you here.

Ah got it, that makes sense! Awesome you're so involved with it - not many people appreciate rats (or any rodent, for that matter).
