So we got our hands on some rats from animal aid in London.
I suspected pregnancy from the older lady....
Then 2 days ago...I found babies...
But the mom was not who I thought....she was a much smaller, 4-5 month old female. She had 9...she took a bit to get it but thankfully she trusts me and will let me check often. Nice bellies....

Still no babies from Nan...but she was in a frenzy last night so I brought her out and set her up her own space. No babies this morning and she happily went back with Mama and the bubs. I'm still watching. I just moved and have no clue where my scale is so right now we're waiting again.
My buddy Nan...such a sweety

No babies from Nan at all. She's just a round girl. Babes are almost 2 weeks...eyes are popping and they are on the move. We move to small cage Thursday. The tank is getting a bit crowded now.

Glad to hear Nan's just a round rat lady. One litter at a time is enough work!

Does it look like they'll all be solid white, so far as you can tell? Even the smallest of distinguishing marks can be helpful. Otherwise there's a lot of, "Hey! Uh... Whichever one you are! Stop chewing on the duvet!" Do you find that happens much, or is it easier for you to tell that many identically-coloured rats apart? (Hannah had eleven babies; food colouring markings on their tails helped tremendously while we rehomed them.)

I've had identical litters. Flower Child's immaculate conception (somehow I assume Louie got to her as he was the only male ever out)
She had all white babies. It was "Hey FC boys...enough"

Wow update is overdue. I came by today to vent to a group that will be right on my side. I have had this family contact me several times. First was when the 15/16 year old daughter "Taylor" was 'sick' and had to be hospitalized for a few weeks when Norma and Rufus (her two female rats) came to stay with me. I believed their story but then Taylor came to visit wearing a school uniform. So she can go to school and focus on all that but she can't keep her pets in her home where I dunno, her Mother could help her? I reluctantly let her take them home 6 weeks later.
Months pass and we would interact again...so she could dump 2 hamsters off they clearly neglected and 2 rats they got them decided it was too much. Which they were keeping in a cage u wouldn't have even put one of the hamsters in.
Now Taylor is expecting I guess (let's recall I believe she is no older than 17 now) the rats have to be 1.5+ by now if not almost 2. I'm so frustrated she is just ready to toss them out. I calmly explained that they pose no risk to Taylor or the baby other than possible bresthing discomfort during cleaning but someone could help her upkeep that And I didn't see cause to remove them once again from their home and routine for the short time they have left...I couldn't even really hide my frustration in my message back. I did say I would take them if they absolutely felt it necessary but it was really unfair to Norma and Rufus to move them again because life got inconvenient for the humans....
