Looking at the cage I purchased a few weeks ago, I posted that there was more rust than there actually is. I inspected it further and there is one or 2 very small patches of rust in the corners. Is that major? I don't want to have to repaint the cage as it looks okay. I will repaint if needs be, but the rust looks very small? The pet shop (there is not one single breeder near me) told me their getting rats in on Wednesday of this week.

I dislike using cages with rust on them (afraid of possible health issues) and would likely remove the rust and paint those areas and then let it cure for several weeks, if I could .....
but some people use cages with a bit of rust on them .....

So, perhaps someone else can give you a better answer then I can

Too bad that you can't find rats being rehomed, or at a rescue, or a shelter.

I would love ones being rehomed, from a shelter or rescue. But I don't have one near otherwise that'd be the first place I'd go. There is one rescue for all animals, but I checked with them and they have no rats.
