My older rat Pudgy has been getting pretty sick the last month and a half. One of his issues is a respiratory infection that isn’t responding that great to antibiotics. The vet gave him baytril and doxy first. When that didn’t work she gave him baytril and smz/tmp. Just the other day she switched him from those to just azithromycin and also added prednisone. I was reading about azithromycin and it seems like it isn’t so effective in older, chronic rats by itself. I have baytril and doxy at home. Should I start giving him one or the other of those in addition to the azithromycin or should I just wait and see what happens with the azithromycin by itself?
