when I surface clean the cage, sometimes there is a redish orange tinge that shows up on the wipe. I was wondering what this was because everytime I try to search it it only comes up with sites about porphyrin around the rats eyes, but that's not it. All help and responses are appreciated.

Sometimes rats sneeze and porphyrin can spray from their nose onto things
so it could be that.
Excess porphyrin could be an indication that they are ill so keep a close eye on them

Male rats who have not been neutered have a hormonal secretion called buck grease on their skin but you would not normally see that on anything
