Hi, a week ago, one of my rats suddenly died. It was unexpected, and took me by surprise. He seemed to have been healthy the night before, and had still been eating, drinking, etc. He was only a year old, but from a pet store, so I'm not really surprised?

But I'm concerned about my other rats. Last night, my late Hunk's litermate, Axel, was being a downright bully, and was puffed up and wrestling and humping (something that Hunk used to do) his cagemates, but before he was usually pretty chill and in the background.

I'm about 50% sure that Hunk was the alpha, so is this normal? Should I be concerned about this personality change? I'm still a rookie when it comes to being a rat Mama, so I'm not sure when I'm overreacting or not...

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, this is very normal. They are also grieving so I would let them be for now. I bet everything will settle down soon enough. I'm very sorry for your loss.
