Poe and Friends

My rat Poe has an upper respiratory infection. I took him to the local vet and they are very nice there. They gave him Baytril and Doxycycline to give to him twice a day. The vet said that Poe was a good boy (he always has been) and that his URI was very severe.
Poe is eating fine and since he doesn't want to take his meds from the syringe I mix it in with his favourite treat: bananas. Now he is taking his meds just fine.
He is jerking his head back and forth when he breathes, always seems so puffed up, has a loss of energy, and excessive porphyrin in his eyes.
Anything you recommend to help make him better?
He was adopted and we don't know his background history.
