Mouse is a male rat. Nearly 2. Always been nervous and doesnt enjoy affection. He is not neatured but he is nearly 2 so didnt think be affecting him now of was that. He lives with another male called mozey. Biting is happening any time. Mozey is fine. Any ideas guys?

has anything changed? Does he bite only in the cage, outside the cage? Does he approach you to bite, or only reacts when you are around him? How bad are the bites? Draws blood, chomps or bite slashes where he dives in bites then retreats?

Only thing can think of is got sisters cat staying with us though she been with us 3 weeks and the rats and cat have paid no attention to each other and hes not bitten during the 3 weeks shes been here till now. Only bitten in cage so far as now nervous to get him out. Bites when approached. Bite like a slash. Sort of a bite and run. Drew blood. Left slash wound. Had him since 8 weeks. Always nipped to test if your food. Very nervous rat. Never bitten.

any chance you had the smell of the cat on your hands? Rats know the smell of predators and being a nervous rat to start with may have reverted to instincts. It sounds more like fear than aggression for sure. Offer him the back of your hand as its harder to bite onto.
