hello! i have a 11 month (maybe?) old rat and within the last day stuff has not been right. at 10pm last night she was active, running around and playing with her sister. around 12 am, she did not respond whenever i called her, she was barely moving. whenever i picked her up i noticed blood everywhere dripping from her vagina. she wasn’t eating at all when i tried and when moving, she was barely moving her back legs. i took her into the vet today and what they noticed was that when squeezed a tiny bit blood would drip out of her. they gave me some antibiotics and said to check back up in 5 days or else ill have to see a specialist. does anyone know what could be going on with her? they never told me exactly what was up.

symptoms overview: not eating, bleeding from vagina, weak movements, not moving back legs, her body looking very skinny and frail, swollen face, closed eyes.

It sounds like she has a pyometra, they're extremely dangerous and the best way to ensure she makes it is a spay, I had a girl with an open pyometra who was put on pain meds and antibiotics, thankfully it did help her but before that she had extreme blood loss and was very close to passing away, hopefully this was caught soon enough and the meds work for you too.

so i am giving her the pain meds and antibiotics and the vets are having a check up in 6 days, do you think she’ll be alright during that time?

If the antibiotics are working then yes she should be perfectly fine, if you see her getting worse instead of better you should bring her in sooner, my girl went untreated for a few days because I only saw blood in the cage, couldn't find the cause for a while
