hello everyone. this is my first time posting but i've been browsing the site for a long time.
I'm very concerned about one of my boys. he's dealing with what i think is probably a URI, he's on baytril right now. today his back feet, testicles, and skin underneath looks really purple. his testicles and feet look swollen. His tongue is also purple. I have an appointment with the vet in 2 weeks. it was the soonest they have available, and i live in a rural area so they are basically the only ones that treat rats.
Has anyone ever dealt with this?? I'm really really worried.
Its also probably worth noting that I just moved from sea level to fairly high elevation. Could he just be dehydrated, or not getting enough oxygen? what do I do about that??
thank you in advance

sounds like a Vet emergency!!
sounds like he is not getting enough oxygen and needs to see a vet now

I would suggest that in addition to the baytril you add azithromycin (10 mg/Ib) - I get it from a pharmacy by prescription from my vet. He may also need clavamox or other meds

He really needs to see a vet now
Is he eating, drinking, etc
How is his breathing?
Please post videos - post to youtube and put the link on here

you may also want to post in the facebook group, Real rat Lovers want To Know as at least one of their medical contributors is a vet

Also, if it comes down to this :( please see the info re euthanasia I posted here https://www.ratshackforum.com/threads/suspected-pt.36228/#post-499241

I messaged a couple of people re your post

How long has he been on Baytril. This could be heart failure, severe respiratory distress or allergic reaction to something. I too suggest going to the vet asap. He might need oxygen asap.

he is eating and drinking okay but not as good as usual.
his breathing is rapid, and he's been on baytril for one week. there is a vet that is 2 hours away that will see him and I'm driving there now. i will post updates when we get there. thank you both. I'm doing everything I can.

At the vet now. a doctor checked him right away to see if he needed immediate attention. He did not, and they said that he doesn't need sub-q or anything. just waiting to see the vet now.
