I have 3 male rats and my older one (about 3 months)grabs food to aggressively. I’m not sure if he being aggressive on purpose or if he is just super eager for food. I do feed him from my hand when I open the cage but sometimes his little nibbles are a little harder then they should be. He normally only does it once and hasn’t done any major damage but it does hurt slightly. Are these early signs of cage aggression or does he not understand how strong his bite can be?!

Oh my rats do it when they seem to be adding their signature to a post I write about them. I'm just trying to help draw attention to your thread so someone who knows can answer, I need to know the answer to this too.

I agree, too eager for food but it could escalate. I would offer the food on a spoon until he realizes he doesn't like biting into a spoon and will eventually stop using his teeth and be more gentle.
