Nibbley rats

Hi I’ve recently bought two small male rats they are doing really well however I went to slowly introduce my hand into the cage and one of my rats tried to pull my finger in and don’t want to let go then kept nibbling at my fingers he didn’t bite hard only slightly painful but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to stop this or better introduce myself haven’t had this problem before thanks

Rats use their mouths to explore the world and while engaging with other rats, your rat might not know that he is hurting you so you can just make a loud squeak to let him know, you can also use a licking treat to train him that when he nibbles you take away the treat and when he licks he gets the treat.
