This is my thread about my rat boys:
Zitka, Edward and Stefan..
There will probably also be a couple of pictures ofZitka's brother Akai.

Presenting my rats:
Akai(Born April 1st 2008. Passed away February 15th 2010)

Akai was, if you're being picky, my second rat, and Zitka's brother.
Named from a wolf program, where they said that Akai is Blackfoot for the wise one or something like that..

Zitka: Akai's brother, and my very first rat. Born April 1st 2008 and is going on strong.

Zitka is probably mine "the one in a lifetime rat"
He accepted Edward and stefan the second time he saw them and is now a proud stepdad!
Zitka and Akai is from a petstore, but was so tame when I got them that I believe they are from a breeder.

Edward: Born in week 51 2009.

Born in the store and had probably almost never been touched when I got him.
He is still very skittish, but he's getting there :D
He is a strange little creature that is quite a handful..
Named after Edward in Twilight.

Stefan: Born in week 51 2009
He is a lot more calm than Edward.
He is named after Stefan in Vampire diaries.

They're so beautiful! What lovely ratties.
Thank you!
Hopefully I'll get them all as tame as I want to..
Preferably as tame as Zitka...
He'll just follow me or sit on my shoulder..

And my rat cage..

The layout is different now, but it's the same cage..
Depending on the calculator, it has room for 8-12 rats..
I have 3 so they should have space enough :)

I would add some hammocks and things to that cage, it looks a bit empty. They are lovely ratties!
They have more stuff in the cage now:)
Branches, a ferret toilet and stuff like that..
When I had those two they didn't bother using any of it anyway..
Zitka has become a lot more active now that he's healthy again and he has the two young ones..
Will be adding more later, but I have to get some new cage parts first..
It isn't solid, so i need new plugs so it gets more solid.. But they who delivers it never seem to manage to send the correct parts :gaah:

Oh man, that cage is awesome.... And what sweet handsome boys! :D
Thank you!
I want a big cage for my guys.. Not as small as they can live in..
and it's a bird cage, so I don't have to take the whole bottom out to clean it..

Both Stefan and especially Edward are doing just fine..
Think they know the pattern now :lol2:
I usually take them out for some one on one time in the evening..
Edward first, then Stefan and then Zitka..
So when I come down when Edward, Stefan is starting to stand by the doors waiting for his turn :giggle:
Right now, Stefan is resting by my dad.. Trying to socialize them a bit with him since he's taking care of them for 3 weeks this summer..
Edward is still a bit skittish, but he's starting to enjoy cuddletime..
He is a bit less panicky, but he don't want to be catched when he's running around the room..
Most of the time I get him within a couple of minutes tho.. TRYING not to stress him more than necessary..

Zitka is doing exceptionally well..
I'm glad the vet found out what was wrong with him, and that I got him neutered instead of putting him to sleep..
he is slightly thinner than he was before he got sick, but then again.. he's a big boy.. He's about 550g now and was about 600g..

Got them some sort of hammock today.. Don't remember the name of it.. In wood..
I can't afford buying new hammocks every 2 days or making it myself..
They just tear it to shreds..
Edward and Stefan likes better to climb tho.. So I have more branches and stuff to climb on..

I'm glad to hear they are doing so well!

And yes, rats are hard on hammocks... Using old clothes or fleece from the dollar store works well. :)

We don't have that here..
It's almost as expensive as buying them finished:/

don't know if this works or not.. :wallbang:

Made some (big?) progress with Edward yesterday..
He's been terrified of my father(or everybody..)
My father have been holding him a few minutes every night..
since my father are watching them for 3 weeks, he should get to know him and trust him too..
Anyway.. Last night he actually calmed down a bit and took a treat from him!
Took me weeks before he took treats from me on a regular basis..

I know this is a terrible quality.. Bit I just love him in this film.. He's having a hard time staying awake

Made some progress on Edward.. First film I've added with him..

Can anyone tell me why it's just a white square??

For videos to work for me anyways, you just copy the part of the link after "v=" in the YouTube link, and put that between the YouTube tags.
