Travelin' Rat's March Rescue of the Month is: Rifugio Jill Phipps from Albugnano (Asti), ITALY!

L’associazione etica antispecista Jill Phipps nasce dalla volontà di alcune individualità, di creare un rifugio per animali, solitamente definiti da “reddito”… Individui che per la società non rappresentano che una mera fonte lucrativa, un codice a barre. Proprio per loro, stiamo creando uno spazio in cui possano, semplicemente vivere la loro vita, fuori dalle logiche del profitto. Tutto il nostro lavoro basa le sue fondamenta sui principi dell’antispecismo, cercando di boicottare ogni forma di prevaricazione dell’uomo sugli animali a partire dalla “semplice” alimentazione quotidiana… Inoltre riteniamo che un ritorno alla natura, oltre a farci riscoprire le mille potenzialità assopite nel contesto urbano, possa trasformare la visione teorica, spesso troppo ostentata, senza azioni concrete, da alcuni, in realtà vera e propria! Riteniamo che oltre al cambiamento culturale sia necessario creare nuove realtà per salvare individui reificati e sfruttati da sempre.
Il rifugio porta il nome di "Jill Phipps" un'attivista animalista che venne investita ed uccisa il 1 febbraio 1995, da un camion che trasportava vitelli nel corso di una protesta, presso l’aeroporto di Conventry, contro l’esportazione di animali destinati al macello.
Il suo esempio ha contribuito a formare il nostro background di attivisti e continua, ancor oggi, ad essere un'inesauribile fonte d’ispirazione.
The Jill Phipps antispecist ethical association arises from the will of some individualities, creating a shelter for animals, usually defined by "income" ... Individuals who for society do not represent a mere lucrative source, a bar code. Precisely for them, we are creating a space in which they can simply live their lives out of the logic of profit. All our work bases its foundations on the principles of anti-speciesism, trying to boycott any form of human abuse of animals from "simple" daily food ... We also believe that a return to nature, as well as making us rediscover the thousand potentials dormant in the urban context, it can transform the theoretical vision, often too ostentatious, without concrete actions, by some, actually real! We believe that in addition to cultural change it is necessary to create new realities to save reified and exploited individuals forever. The shelter bears the name of "Jill Phipps" an animal activist who was hit and killed on February 1, 1995, by a truck carrying calves during a protest at the Conventry airport, against the export of animals at the slaughterhouse. His example helped to shape our activist background and continues, even today, to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
