Lone rat

There's a male rat at my humane society and he's 8 weeks old .

My general question is can you temporarily keep a rat alone until you find a cage mate for them?

You can, and if he's only 8 weeks that means finding him a buddy will be a lot easier.

yes you can ……. at 8 weeks old he is a baby (rats are babies until 12 weeks old) so you will want to find him a friend as soon as possible because he is missing his mama and his brothers and sisters ........ it will be easy to introduce another baby to him
