So I have two little rats, and recently the dominant one started getting dark red/brown discharge out her nose. She has periodic sneezing fits where she'll sneeze 4 or 5 times in a row, and she'll also do the solitary (wet) sneezes. I've only had them for maybe a month and a half, and I'm not sure how to go about listening to her breathing. Her cage mate is doing well and doesn't show any of the same symptoms. I would think it's stress, but she is the dominant one that is always searching for treats and climbing onto my shoulder.

Any advice?

Porphyrin (the reddish discharge, dries to a dark red/brown) and sneezing are symptoms of a rat getting sick. Hold her sides to your ear and listen to her breathing. Clear lungs should have no sounds, or just a gentle whoosh of air in and out as she breathes. Bad sounds are crackling, gurgling, roughness, wheezing, rattling.
