I've suggested custard a couple times on this forum for rats who won't take medicine or for people trying to bond with rats who are a bit bitey, to stimulate licking of hands rather than biting.

I figured I'd just post the recipe so I can just refer people to it.

In a saucepan put
3.5 cups of milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar ( you can use less sugar, it's up to you)

In a separate bowl whisk 5 egg yolks and then progressively flour until it's thick (appx 4 tablespoons of flour)

Put milk mixture on high heat and bring just to a boil.

Remove from heat and pour a cup of the hot milk into the egg yolk/ flour mixture and whisk well

Pour egg yolk/flour/milk back into saucepan and place on medium high heat and whisk constantly until thickened.

Place in bowl in fridge to cool.

You can give it warm or cold to your rats. In the winter I put some in the microwave to warm it up. In summer I serve it cold. You can also put fruits your rats like in the custard to serve it.

My rats LOVE custard.
