I just found out that the two rats I rescued as babies are a boy and a girl. I don't want any future litters but I've become so bonded to both and I don't think I can afford neutering. I need suggestions or help on what to do

Unless you have a friend you'd trust to take one so you could visit often, would it be too much to get a second cage and a buddy for each? It would be more work but you'd have the pleasure of both sexes. (it would take constant vigilance tho, they're very adept at getting to the opposite sex:rolleyes:).

Get a ferret nation double cage. That's what I have there sturdy and work well. You can fund some ranging from $50-$100
