Hello fellow rat lovers, first timer here. I currently have five rats, Oscar, Seymore, Widmore, Alo, and Buddha. One had the sniffles and now they all are making the wheezy noises. I got my hands on some Amoxicilin 500mg capsules(for humans) and some Doxycycline 100mg capsules(also for humans). I got needlless syringes 1/2ml and a scale to nearest 100th of a gram (10mg). I am not good with math, and i have OCD so i tripple check things, and then check again, especialy when it comes to saftey. I do not have 250.00$ for a vet visit + 30.00 x 5 for medication(they charge per rat) so i used my money for everything else, scale, syringes, baby food, and my mom is in remission from cancer so shes a walking pharmacy lol and let me have two full bottles of these medications. I would just like someone to please check my math for me, my boyfriend tells me its right but like i said, OCD. Oscar is 0.13.1 oz So amoxicillin is 10mg/lb I did 10/16 to get .625 so thats .625 of medicine per oz, So would i just do .625 x 13.1oz to get what we are supossed to dose him? But we dont have a scale that goes down to the nearest 1000 so anything under 10mg we are just eye balling it.:help2: However then there is the problem of, if a vet said (online) doxycycline is 2.5mg/lb and amoxicillin is 10mg/lb But what if i need to use both at the same time? do i lower them or just do half of each. Im so lost. and the vet wont even answer my questions about this because they dont want to be liable. But i mean 55.75$ per rat not including medication is just crazy talk. Thats more than my whole pay check and me not eating for a week. Please just know that if all this doesnt pan out i will take my animals to the vet. No problem. They come first.
