So getting my babies in 2 weeks and i need to cover the cage in hardware mesh.. i need opinions and help... should i put mesh inside or out? I feel inside would be better to prevent rats from trying to get between mesh and bars but id have to find a way to make sure all sharp edges are covered. (Hot glue on ends maybe?)

It is really does not matter - inside or outside. Your rats will not try to get out anyway. I recommend to install it outside, because it will be much easier for you.

You might consider buying a Midwest Critter Nation as it has small bar spacing and is one of the top recommended cages for rats (less expensive and sold under a different name at petsmart, and depending on where you live might be found second hand on sites like Kijiji)

and as Fidget wrote in the other thread, hardware cloth must go on the outside of a cage as otherwise it will injure your rats
