So Flora seems to have a URI she is very crackly and has audible respirations. I thought something might be up last week when she didn't run to the cage door like her sisters for food. These girls are fur balls with eyes. A couple days ago she began the audible respirations and today saw the vet. We are bypassing the baytril/doxy and going right to azithromycin/viagra combo, with lasix as needed. Along with resp calm and ol immune.

We tried viagra with Hawk, but he was so sick by the time we decided to try it I don't think it helped. I don't believe he got much worse the three months he was on it but rather stayed status quo. So it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference with her.

However, Weston now lives with Flora and her three sisters and it seems to be cheering him up after losing all his brothers and Clark. He really seems to like Flora. In this pic he is being her pillow

This girl has sometime weird going on! The meds seem to have helped some since I can no longer hear her crackling noise, but she is having gasping attacks. She doesn't seem in great distress, doesn't turn blue/purple, makes a clicky noise, opening of her mouth varies, but sometimes she is running around frantically and other times she just sits there. After awhile she calms down and is fine again.

Did the viagra help do you think? Her gasping and running around does sound like panic with struggling to breathe. Could she have something in her air ways blocking? Does she eat well? I've noticed with all my rats who had pulmonary abscesses did the open mouth gasping and frantic panic.

The viagra was started on Friday the 23rd and by Wednesday the 28th her lungs sounded clear when "rat phoned" and no more audible breathing can be heard. I think she might have another underlying issue (tumor). She is on a azithromycin/viagra combo. I do have to say I believe the combo worked a lot faster than doxy/baytril and the azithromycin didn't seem to be doing anything until we started the viagra. She was on the azithromycin since the 21st (had to wait on the viagra to be refilled). She seems to be selective in what she is eating, but she is eating. We see the vet on Saturday.

Poor little one. The viagra working is good news for sure!

Yes, viagra has worked and she has had completely clear lungs since about 5-7 days after starting it. She was taken off the viagra on 10/1 because she was having some green discharge from her girly area (she is spayed) and that is apparently a side effect. She in now on benedryl since her nose seems clogged.

Flora passed away sometime during the night. We never could figure out how to help her with the strange nasal breathing she had.
