So I've never dealt with a breeder. All animals I've gotten have been rescue animals. The area I live in does have have shelters but it's so rare to find rats on them and when they are available, they go fast. The shelters near me CAPS, ASPCA, Houston Humane Center don't have waiting list so it's even less reliable to get my rats through a rescue. There are other rescues near me but these rescues dub as animal control as well and from the times I've been there they don't have any small animals at all. A rat rescue would be soooo much easier but the nearest one to me is all the way in Austin! Not to mention I don't think my parents would be willing to drive all the way for Austin for some rats. My next option is a breeder (which I have found one near me) the only problem is I don't know what to expect? My question is: What question should I be asking the breeder? What should I expect from the breeder? How should the breeder's rats cages be set up? I'm really hoping she's the ticket. There's so few rats available in my area. Even craigslist only gave me 3 or so choices that wasn't (a. out of the price range I promise my parents. (b. wasn't a hour or more away or (c. wasn't showing a picture of a snake breeder looking for feeders.
The only option I have left is adopting from a pet store which I'm very slow to do.
