I know it's late but I'm in dire need of help. One of my boys, Sandy, escaped his playpen during free-range time and when I went to grab him I accidentally grabbed the tip of his tail, resulting in a degloving. I've never had this happen before and I'm so scared for him. I did my best to clean the tip of his tail and applied some neosporin, but all the vets are closed for covid and I don't know what else to do.

I feel absolutely horrible for what happened, and I want to ease his pain as much as possible.

You've cleaned his tail, next is pain relief. Infant ibuprofen can be given every 4-6 hours for a day or so. Once the tail tip dries up the pain goes away. You need to keep your boys environment very clean to prevent infection but stop applying ointments once it dries. I'll link my experience with degloving when my vet was in hospital and I had to deal with it on my own

Thank you for your reply. I just got finished cleaning their cage, and I've cleaned his tail to the best of my ability. How should I administer the ibuprofen, and approximately how much should I give him? Unfortunately we don't have any syringes in the house.

We're going to try to get him to a vet on Monday, but we're short on money at the moment. Do you know how much an amputation of the exposed tail might cost?

UPDATE: We got him some ibuprofen and mixed it into his food, but he doesn't seem to be taking it. Any tips?
