You will have a white one with dark eyes! We have a long haired syrian with white with dark eyes. He is the cutest fluff ball ever.

April 16th: Day 12 - Yep, the kiddos are really tucking into solid food! Kinda hysterical to watch since they are constantly losing whatever they're trying to nibble on - their eyes still haven't opened yet. Doesn't stop them from swarming momma at every chance they get. Poor Fauna's nips are looking a little tender from all that nursing.

Extreme nursing!

Please forgive the audio background - the hubby was watching L.A. Confidential. But you can still hear all that widdle nibblings!

so when they turn what 4 weeks old? *I cant remember when the age is i know it is younger than rats* Will you have to split them into individual cages at some point? I know these hamsters are generally solitaire so they cant live with each other right?

I was lucky with some of mine, 1 momma has one girl with her, the other momma has 2 of her girls, one momma lives alone since her crazy kid started beating her but my mom has 5 of the baby boys and they still live with each other with no problems. They are dwarf hamsters though I know they can live with others unless they get mean to them.

I'll probably gender separate at 4-weeks, but will keep the boys together and the girls with mom til 5-weeks. After that though, we'll definitely split them up between different adoption outposts so that they all can get their own cage. Grr, why to syrians have to be solitary? Makes things much harder.

April 17th: Day 13 - ARGH, baby eyes still closed, but jolly gee, that cage was reeking and I finally broke down and cleaned it. The nursing cage in retrospect was way too small - its one of those super dinky wire-top/plastic bottom thingies. So in addition to giving it a quickie clean (I left some of the ick so that momma wouldn't panic), I popped the base into a large bin - gives momma some running room, but still keeps the kiddos contained. To make sure I didn't accidentally throw any of the babies away, I scooped them into a little bowl, and finally got a good count of the colors. Still need to see their eyes before determining some of the "official" color names, but there's six goldens, one cream, one dove (?), and three varying oranges (rust, cinnamon ?). They all appear to be solids too. No clue of course about the sexes yet, but it would be hysterical if they all turn out to be boys like the other two litters I've raised.

April 18th: Day 14 - Alrighty, eyes still aren't open yet ... but I could no longer resist. Fortunately Momma has been perfectly fine with me handling her pups. So fuzzy!!! And surprisingly very nippy too! Hoping their nibbles are more "Are you food?" as opposed to "I hate you!"

April 19th: Day 15 - The babies' first holiday photoshoot! Was hoping that their eyes would open before heading down to my in-laws place for Easter, but alas that didn't happen. Still, I think they're awfully cute. They certainly have become a lot more mobile and quickly mastered climbing out of that basket. And poor Fauna's underside is looking super sore - I wouldn't be surprised if she starts weening them soon.

April 20th: Day 16 - HALLELUJAH, EYES ARE OPEN!!! The three orange-y ones and the gray-ish pup have red eyes, so I'm thinking one cinnamon, two champagnes, and one dove? And I'm almost certain that the cream has black eyes but I need to double check. Babies are on the move, and poor momma has her paws full trying to keep them by the nest. They are definitely transitioning well to solid foods and have discovered the awesomeness of their pouches. They've even already figured out the water bottle too! Did a preliminary sexing, and I'm thinking I got 6 boys and 5 girls - won't be confidently sure for another week though.
