Travelin' Rat's August Rescue of the Month is: For the LOVE of Rats Rescue in Walker, LA!

Our mission is to help abused and neglected pets find loving forever homes and to get them healthy and socialized. We have been rescuing rats and other small pets Since 2011. We are a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization!
We receive surrenders from the Humane Society, Animal Control/Shelters and private owners. We also take in animals that have been abandoned, found as strays, abused/neglected and hoarding. The domestic pets that come into our rescue receive vet care/shots as needed, socialization/rehabilitation and lots of love. They remain here until we find a home for them that we feel is safe, loving and suitable for them. If that doesn't happen they will live their life here at the rescue. We also take in special needs animals. Most special needs animals will remain here at the rescue. We will allow certain people to adopt special needs pets if we feel that they meet the qualifications to care for a special needs animal. We hold adoption events and educational events. We strongly believe in educating the public in the proper care of pets. We try to be available to our adopters at all times for questions and emergencies. We are very dedicated to the animals in our rescue. We keep in contact with our adopters through social media, email and phone. If we feel something isn't quite right, we will make a house visit. If we find our animals are in poor condition they will be repossessed. Adopters must fill out a 3 page application and sign our contract before adopting. Most of our animals must be adopted in pairs with the exception that they already have an existing pet/pets. We will then do mini playdates to determine who would be the best match for their pets/family. Each adopter receives an adoption packet and sample of the pets current diet. In their adoption packet is a complete care guide, special packet for specific guidelines (foods not allowed, special requirements/guidelines etc.), Links to approved sites for buying items, extra educational purposes and enrichment ideas for your pets) and something special like a recipe or instructions for a toy, huts etc. for your pet.
