Brought some rats from pets at home around 2 weeks ago. They are incredibly scared of us still and if we try to put our hands anywhere near them they do try to bite. Not a really hard bite but can be. We’ve tried liquid treats several times and although some progress I really am starting to think they will never want to be held. And tips are advice. If a rat hasn’t been handled since birth is it possible to change their temperment?

How old are the rats. Pet store rats are typically scared rats. They will require a lot of time and lots of gentle handling. Giving them treats will help. Continue with the wet treats from a spoon. Once they learn to lick the treats, you can then start to offer the wet treat on your finger. Bananas are usually a favourite. Same with watermelon.

Jorats gives good advice. Most young but unsocialized rats will learn to trust if the caregivers remain patient and consistently reassuring. It is easy to feel disappointed and almost defeated when they remain skittish and seem unfriendly after weeks or even months of devotion...I've been there. But try to cherish the small victories along the way; it's actually a promising sign that you can report some progress after just two weeks. At this stage they are are likely still uncertain of their surroundings and they're not feeling adventurous. Remember that most rats have a prey mentality and are hyper-vigilant for threats. Their true personalities will shine only after they learn to feel highly secure in their new setting.
BTW, a good share of rats don't like to be held, including many ultra-friendly ones who are happy to lick their humans and climb all over them. Many rats simply prefer to be in control...or they don't appreciate the grimy hands of humans on their pristine fur. :) But they can form strong bonds with their humans nonetheless.
