Aella, my 2 week old hand raised dble rex gal

Aella (pronounced Eh-La) came to me from a lady who I met at the pet expo last weekend. Turns out this lady had a few litters of rats and needed some help. A friend of mine and I went to her place and helped her sort things out. All of her rats (old and young) were in good health, except for...

    Whiskers from Hamilton Animal Control

I woke up this morning to an email from Hamilton Animal Control, my local city run facility. The email stated that they had a rat there, young, who was dropped off by the young boy (and his mom) who saved him after he was thrown from a car. He has a bloated tummy and an injured tail and he isn't...

ZGT - Nope! Systemic infection - RIP Bear

Hey everyone, I have an older rat, Bear, (2 years old, boy, neutered) who I am suspecting has a ZGT but I am not 100% sure. I have tried to get a picture of him, but the lump really doesn't show in pictures. I can feel a pea sized lump just above his jaw and below his ear. I have looked on rat...

Rat Shack, Meet Spark - Bearded dragon

I recently got a bearded dragon, and I adore her! Her name is Spark. At this point, I have taken to referring to her as a "she" even though she could very well be a "he". I have to wait until she is a bit bigger to know for sure Its a big change from rats, but I have found her personality to...

My Baz is a very strange boy

I have found Baz sleeping on his back below the ladder many times and always wondered, why there? He doesn't sleep on his back anywhere else! I caught this video of him the other day. Seems he needs the ladder to help him flip his fat over >.< https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmCYrQwDgsU

Help needed - 2 litters in need of homes

Hey guys I'm looking to see if we can find some homes for some rats. It's the same old story - people went to the pet store, wanted 2 girls and ended up with one girl and one boy. Then the numbers got bigger. Pictures of the babies will follow later today when we get home but I wanted to see...

What is your rats favourite hammock??

I was thinking of making a few hammocks or sets of hammocks to sell to raise some funds for neuters (Merlin and friends need to be neutered). I was just wondering what kind of hammocks are favourites. Feel free to post pictures too! Sometimes it is a whole lot of fun to make some hammocks by...

People and their silly dislike of rats

Today I had to rush Dizzy to the vet. She has nasty pulmonary abscesses and she was blue and gasping this morning. Naturally, that would stress out any rattie guardian so its been a rather stress filled day. Luckily I got an appointment with Dr Munn in TO who happily saw her and helped me figure...

The house I grew up in for the first 19 years of my life....

Is being torn down next week... and I'm not sure how I feel about it. The house needed a lot of repairs, there was a bit of a rodent problem (which is something that you overlook when you live in a house surrounded by forest), and it was "outdated". The new house on the same lot is beautiful...

Heart issues - What are the signs/symptoms?

Those of you who have had rats with heart issues, how did you know it was a heart issue? If you could include both what you observed at home and what the vet did to confirm the diagnosis, it would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!
