    Sick older rat

Any updates? Eye squinting is a sign of pain, how do her lungs sound?

    Rat traumatized after vet

What injections did the vet give? That's really weird. Usually a head tilt is a sign of an ear infections, in that case usually only antibiotics are prescribed. I would look into what injections were given because I suspect they may have been a cause.

Rat peeing a lot of blood

I've had this issue before and a combination of Doxycycline and Baytril cleared it right up! I would recommend getting doxycycline aswell because often antibiotics work better when paired. Your vet should be able to prescribe it to you without another visit, definitely call them up. Also make...

    Rat acting very unusual

Rats can die very fast from respiratory infections, keep a close eye on him. If you let us know what area you are in, we can help you find a vet that will take rats

    Rat acting very unusual

You need to get medicine for him as soon as possible. If he starts gasping for air or running frantically to get air, you will need to put him down because at this point he is suffering. He can definitely be treated at this point and he will recover, but only if he sees a vet. Call around to...

I need help idk what to do!

I completely agree with you here, I was just noting for a future reference in case it happens with another rat :) As for purchasing medicine online, I only just recently learned you could do that (I just got my first meds from Jedds in yesterday). I think this is a great idea, and that people...

I need help idk what to do!

IMO I would get a younger rat because they're easier to introduce :) I think there are many ways to do introductions but here's how I do it: 1. You are supposed to quarantine the new rat for 2 weeks in case of any illness or diseases she has. I keep each cage in a separate room. 2. After the 2...

    Rat acting very unusual

I completely agree with Dena. A much better snack list than I was able to come up with :P

I need help idk what to do!

I am so sorry :( I think you did really well taking care of them, sometimes health issues with rats are just inevitable. For future reference, the vet you went to initially should be able to fill a prescription without needing a 2nd visit. So if this happens with your other girl, just know that...

    Rat acting very unusual

I think your rat needs a friend. Rats can't live alone. He may just be becoming antisocial. Try giving different treats than the ones you can buy at petstores like the sweet potato snacks because sometimes they contain weird or harmful ingredients. Try uncooked pasta, veggies, crackers...

    Rat licked frappe straw

Ps. Rats generally have a fast heart beat and breathe fast so this could be normal. But definitely look out for labored breathing or any signs of pain

    Rat licked frappe straw

I think you should wait a day or two and pay close attention to any new noises. Check the eyes and nose for any porphyrin aswell. If you hear any excessive sneezing (occasional is fine), grunts/wheezing/clicking, etc, then she may have a respiratory infection. What bedding do you use? Sometimes...

I need help idk what to do!

Also, if you find out what medicine you were giving, post it here and mention what dose you were giving so people can double check it and make sure it was correct

I need help idk what to do!

Also, I have heard two sides, some say that humidifiers are great for respiratory issues and some say they make them worse. Maybe someone else can help us figure this out because I am unsure

I need help idk what to do!

See if you can find out what medicine you were giving. Normally you need a combination of antibiotics to cure a respiratory issue. Definitely supply her with a source of warmth. You can fill a sock with rice and stick it in the microwave and it'll make a great source of heat. Antibiotics take AT...

Young female rat bleeding from privates

Here are two videos. one you can see the droplet and the other you can see how she walks with her body low to the ground. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-of4mswf6vNbLsjoFZw7vuDQv6NtDtTi/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-iNv7Fn9M3p9C9S_WXz-h2-Bhrc-BhK4/view?usp=drivesdk

Young female rat bleeding from privates

I noticed blood spots in some bedding I changed out during my last cleaning but could not find its origin. Today, while out for play time, my younger rat Mabel ran across my leg and marked me, and left a watery red liquid on my leg, presumably blood. I am guessing this is a UTI? She grooms her...

I've developed not only a rat addiction, but a severe rat allergy :(

I too am severely allergic! I keep my rat cage in the other room and when I clean I use a mask. I also wear long sleeves and jeans when I play with them. Their pee gives me hives (and their tails do too), and for that I just wash with soap and water and rub benadryl cream on my skin and it...

Rats getting sick or just grieving?

Janny wasn't the top spot, if anything she was the most submissive of all of my girls. :( The scratching seems to be on the middle of her side. I can only hear the grunting when I put her sides up to my ear, it isn't load enough otherwise.
